For the first time in a 50 year history, the Clubs for Young People (CYP) Senior Championship Finals were held at the new Catterick Leisure Centre in aid of the Catterick Garrison Welfare Fund.

With a crowd in excess of 400 people in attendance this year’s event, was funded and promoted by Gus Robinson MBE, chairman of Gus Robinson Promotions working in conjunction with Sodexo, Bladerunner Leisure Centre and the Garrison.

The main guest of honour was Lance Corporal Katrina Hodge (Miss UK) who was joined by other honoured guests such as Robert Smith (Gen Sec BBB of C), Actor Ciaran Griffiths (Mickey Maguire form Shameless), Steve Boyle (Boxer and Actor), Steve Webb (CYP Chairman) and Tony Bennett (CYP Chief Executive).

There were a total of nine championship bouts and all proceeds from the event were jointly presented on the night to CYP for the development of youth, and Catterick Garrison welfare fund.

“This is fantastic news for the Welfare Fund and provides a major boost at a time when many of the soldiers in the Garrison are being deployed on a six-month operational tour of Afghanistan. This large sum of money will help to support families who remain in the Garrison and also go to other good causes,” said Colonel Millen to the Garrison Gazette.
